Hampden chiefs have revealed new bumper TV figures for last year’s Premiership matches - with Scotland’s top-flight drawing in an additional 2.5million viewers.The figures released by Sky Sports show a year-on-year rise of 24 per cent for telly during season 2023/24.
The broadcaster’s stats show a total of 12.5m watched SPFL games on the satellite channel last term, up from 10.03m the campaign before.
The average audience for SPFL matches also rose from 228,000 to 285,000 viewers this season.April’s 3-3 Old Firm clash at Ibrox claimed top spot, drawing in a whopping 1.44m viewers as Rangers and Celtic fought out a gripping six-goal thriller during the tense title fight - the highest for a Scottish league match since the SPFL formed in 2013.
League chief exec Neil Doncaster said: “It’s great news to see such strong growth in viewing figures for SPFL matches on Sky Sports this season.“These fantastic viewing figures further demonstrate how compelling our national game is with supporters, as well as the significant interest in our game across Scotland and the UK.
