Spain could scrap face masks in time for the Easter holidays in a major boost for travellers, according to reports. The country has given its strongest hint yet that wearing coverings indoors - including in pubs and restaurants - could become a thing of the past.Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said last week that face masks could be scrapped “soon, very soon.", according to i News.

Spain lifted a requirement to wear face masks outdoors in early February, but they are still currently mandatory in enclosed spaces and on public transport.Mr Sanchez said: “We have the lowest cumulative rate of coronavirus right now in Europe and soon, very soon, when our Health Minister says so, we’ll be able to remove the mandatory status of face masks indoors.”Spain lifted requirements to show a Covid passport to enter bars and nightclubs last month.

It comes after Spain has changed its travel rules for holidaymakers that are yet to be fully vaccinated against Covid. Previous rules meant that travellers who have received at least two doses of the vaccine were the only foreign visitors allowed to enter the country.New rules announced by the Spanish government mean that unvaccinated tourists who have recovered from Covid in the last six months will now be allowed to enter.Scots who fall under this bracket must show a medical certificate or recovery record to prove their Covid status at the border.
