NASA and SpaceX are attempting to launch two astronauts into space as part of a historic mission this evening. The mission will see astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley launched into space on board a Falcon 9 rocket, on a 400 kilometre journey to the I nternational Space Station.
This marks the first time humans have been launched from the US since 2011. NASA said: “As the final flight test for SpaceX, this mission will validate the company’s crew transportation system, including the launch pad, rocket, spacecraft, and operational capabilities. “This also will be the first time NASA astronauts will test the spacecraft systems in orbit.” The launch is set to take place at 16:33 EDT (21:33 BST) from Kennedy’s Launch Complex 39A.
