South Lanarkshire Provost confirms name of man killed in horror smash

A 78-year-old man killed after a horror crash in Strathaven on Tuesday night has been named locally.The Provost of South Lanarkshire Council, Margaret Cooper, who is also an Avondale councillor, confirmed in a post that it was her "good friend" Donald McKillop that had passed away.Emergency services rushed to Lesmahagow Road around 7pm and police confirmed that a 78-year-old had died at the scene in an accident involving a car and two male pedestrians, who were struck by the vehicle.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

His condition is unknown at this time.Donald lived in Strathaven and was a former member of the RAF. He was heavily involved in his community, and was well-known for his involvement in the community council and projects such as Strathaven Gala Day.He also helped with the creation of a statue of WWII military dog Rifleman Khan in the town.
