Scotland has ‘turned a corner’ in its fight against the Omicron Covid variant, Nicola Sturgeon claimed yesterday. The First Minister was optimistic in her tone when announcing that further restrictions would be lifted in Scotland from next week.
It comes amid recent data that shows the rise in Covid case numbers is on the way down following a spike of infection during the festive period.
But Covid cases remain high in Scotland despite the recent drop. The Scottish Government today reported 8,495 new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours.And Omicron is still driving the high number of infections since becoming the dominant variant in December 2021.The symptoms of Omicron appear to be different from other strains of the virus - with experts describing regular symptoms as cold and flu like.
One particular symptom has been described by a US doctor as an early indicator of the virus, the Mirror reports. Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health, Dr Allison Arwady, recently said sore throats can predict Covid infections.
