Sophie Wessex was "offered a job" at a supermarket by an employee who didn't realise she was a member of the Royal Family. The Duchess of Edinburgh was reportedly so adept at packing her bags in Waitrose that the lady serving her mentioned they had some vacancies available in store.

Sophie's close friend, Mary Montagu-Scott, shared this amusing anecdote ahead of the royal's 60th birthday tomorrow January 20.Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, she said: "The lady clearly had no idea who Sophie was.

Sophie is both an asset to the nation and to the Royal Family, but more than anything she is a fantastic friend."Many view the duchess as one of the "safest" pairs of hands in the Royal Family.

Last year, she carried out 257 engagements both domestically and internationally, ranking fourth among the royals. This has led to comparisons with Princess Anne, the King's sister, who performed more engagements than any other Royal last year.
