The SNP -Greens government has been accused of not taking recycling seriously after the latest statistics revealed that rates have dropped.
According to new data for 2020 42 per cent of household waste in Scotland was recycled, which represents 1,020,728 tonnes of household waste recycled out of 2,429,057 tonnes produced.
Scotland is lagging behind the rest of the United Kingdom with 64.3 per cent of household waste recycled in Wales, 50.9 per cent in Northern Ireland and 44 per cent in England.
Compared to stats from 2019, there was a drop of 2.9 per cent in the proportion of household waste recycled. Rates have also plummeted in 26 of the 32 councils in Scotland.A report by SEPA stated that recycling was likely impacted by the pandemic.
