Sneak peak of Perth Museum transformation ahead of opening this weekend

The ownership of the £27 million Perth Museum will hand over to the people of Perth this Saturday when it opens its doors to the public for the first time.Online tickets to see the centrepiece - the Stone of Destiny - on the opening weekend were snapped up within minutes; but walk-up tickets will be available.And those behind the transformation of Perth City Hall are both excited and emotional about "handing over the baby".Perth Museum tells the story of the Fair City's place in ancient and modern Scotland.Online tickets to see the Stone of Destiny on the opening weekend were gone within 13 minutes.

However, walk-up tickets will be available on a first-come-first-served basis and are free of charge, as is entry to the museum.

Twelve people can see the relic at a time over 10-minute slots throughout the day. It is a truly immersive experience with a video projected onto three walls of the special room where it is on display, telling its history with the encased relic glistening in the centre.The museum will open at 12pm on Saturday and be open seven days a week from 10am thereafter until 5pm with a late night opening every Thursday until 7pm.Admission to the museum's debut exhibition Unicorn is £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and under 10s go free.On Thursday members of the press were given a sneak preview ahead of the big opening this weekend.

The museum is managed in partnership between Perth and Kinross Council and Culture Perth and Kinross.Culture Perth and Kinross chief executive Helen Smout said: "I'm incredibly excited but also a little bit terrified about handing over the baby.
