A woman on Universal Credit has spoken of her hardship as life in lockdown causes her bills to rise substantially. Dallas Kennedy-Willows, a long-term benefit claimant, usually has her budget down to a fine art but with isolation forcing the 45-year-old to stay inside her one-bedroom flat she has sold her fridge to pay for her heating.
Usually Dallas spends several hours a day at the library applying for jobs, according to the Manchester Evening News, but a bout of tuberculosis as a child has put her in the vulnerable category leaving her scared to leave the house.
She says she now has just 7p and a few items of food to last until her next Universal Credit payment and has struggled to get through to the Department of Work and Pensions
