North Ayrshire insist they are ‘utterly committed’ to tackling deprivation after it emerged more than a quarter of children in the area are living in poverty.New data published by the End Child Poverty coalition highlights that child poverty has risen in every Scottish local authority since 2015.In North Ayrshire there with 6,274 children living below the breadline in 2019/20 which is an estimated 27.9 per cent of all children in the area.It's also 484 more than there were in 2014/15 — a rise of 3.2 per cent.Councillor Robert Foster, cabinet member for health and social care and lead member for poverty at North Ayrshire Council, said the figures were ‘simply devastating’.He added: “We are under no illusions that child poverty is a serious.
