Rod Stewart turned 78 today and fans around the world flocked to send the rocker a special birthday message. Many took the opportunity to share the Maggie May singer's best bits over the years, by posting a series of iconic throwback snaps.And the birthday boy shared them on to his Instagram story.

First up to send him a birthday wish was Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood. On Instagram, the former Small Faces musician posted a pic of Rod with the duo's old band and wrote: "Happy birthday @sirrodstewart! The die-hard Celtic fan shared all the snaps on his story.
