Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor's family have said they are ‘devastated’ following her death on Wednesday at the age of 56. After the announcement of her passing, a family statement followed: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.
Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time." Sinéad had four children and was married and divorced four times.
Sadly last year, her eldest son, Shane, died at the age of 17. Sinéad took to Twitter to announce her loss: "My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God.
May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace." The Dublin born musician rose to fame in the late 1980s when she released her debut album The Lion and the Cobra at the age of 20.
