At the time, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the raid took place and said: “Police were called to an address in W14 on Friday, December 4 at approximately 02:20hrs to reports of a burglary in progress.” Darren February was convicted of illegally entering the X Factor judge’s home, in Holland Park, and jurors took less than an hour to convict him of the burglary, at Isleworth Crown Court.

According to reports, DNA was found on a glove left at the scene – as well as a handprint on a wall at the home. The Daily Star reported he smashed through the patio door of Simon’s home, before getting away with stealing jewellery and two passports.

Simon said at the time: “There is a constant fear it may be repeated and that it may be worse next time. I'm very scared of what could have happened to my son if the burglar had gone into his room." Simon then had maximum security locks put on his home which set him back £15,000.
