Jamie Lang Sideral has officially acquired the distribution rights for Eloy Calvo’s buzzy Spanish mixed-media feature “The Van” (“La Furgo”).
The film will premiere at the BCN Film Festival on April 26, with a theatrical release in Spain set for June 20. Produced by Teidees, traditionally an animation outfit, led by Marta Alonso and Sílvia Cortés, “The Van” is backed by RTVE, 3CAT and supported by the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC) and Crea SGR.
The film is based on the comic book of the same name by Martin Tognola and Ramón Pardina. Calvo compared Sideral’s involvement with the film to starting an engine: “Their endorsement is the fuel we needed to hit the road, to take our story out into the world.
We hope that ‘The Van’ connects with the viewers and leaves them with a good memory.” “The Van” follows Oso, played by Catalan Academy Gaudi Award-winning actor Pol López (“Suro,” “See You In Another Life”), a 45-year-old divorced man living in his van while attempting to rebuild his life in Barcelona.
