Sia is opening up about the backlash she faced surrounding her movie, Music. In a new profile about the 46-year-old entertainer’s close friend Kathy Griffin, Sia revealed that she went to rehab following the backlash she received over her feature film directorial debut for its portrayal of autism. Back in 2020, Sia originally defended hiring frequent collaborator Maddie Ziegler to star as the autistic teen in the movie, telling Australia’s 10 News First that she “actually tried working with a beautiful young girl nonverbal on the spectrum” but “found it unpleasant and stressful” A viral Twitter thread about the movie explained why its so offensive to the autistic community.
