The loveable ogre at heart of the story, Shrek, is played by Canadian Hollywood legend Mike Myers, who opted to voice the character in a now-iconic Scottish accent.But producers originally had other plans for Shrek’s voice.Myers reportedly first read out the script in a more ‘over the top’ version of his own voice.
But after watching a rough cut of the film, he wasn’t too pleased with how it sounded.The team behind the film then added a further £3m onto the film’s mammoth $60m budget to allow the actor to re-record his lines.Money was also spent on re-animating much of scenes.
