Shotts boss John McKeown says his side face a huge week as they prepare for their maiden season in the West of Scotland Premier League.McKeown’s side head for Beith in their opener on Saturday, having lost 3-1 to Lowland League side Cowdenbeath at Hannah Park in their final warm-up match on Tuesday night.McKeown says his side will be underdogs, but hopes they rise to the occasion. He said: “It’s going to be really difficult, we know that, and we will be everybody’s underdogs, but the boys seem to have been striving on that over the past few seasons, so hopefully they can do it again.“But we’ll take it a game at a time and do our best.
We just need to get back to working really hard, staying humble and knowing we’re going to be underdogs.“We go in and play our own game.
Being realistic, the resources we have are minute compared to every single club who will be in that league, so we just need to give it the best account that we can and look on it that there’s no pressure.“We have standards, but there’s no real pressure, so we’ll see how it goes.”.Shotts drew 0-0 with derby rivals Lanark United on Saturday, but McKeown says missing players took their toll.He added: “It finished 0-0.
It was a good exercise, a pretty even game, and it was good for fitness.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onX via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
