and I’m 5’1”, so I was little compared to everyone else. I couldn’t help but find it intimidating sometimes. I didn’t want to feel intimidated – I wanted to feel smart and confident and professional, which at that stage meant tailored dressing.
It was hard to find clothes, but I was used to that. From a young age, I’d go shopping with my mother, who was also a lawyer, and I saw her difficulty finding clothes that didn’t swamp her frame.
Our shopping trips always felt like treasure hunts. What many people don’t appreciate is that if you’re a typical size, you can walk into a high-street shop and be fairly confident that you’ll be able to find something that fits you.
