Shoppers have been left surprised after discovering what ASOS stands for - and how the fashion company first started out. The well-known online retailer, which sells more than 850 brands as well as its own range of clothing and accessories, first launched in 2000.
It now ships to 195 countries including the UK and the USA but despite its popularity, shoppers are only just starting to discover what the acronym ASOS really means.
In more recent years, ASOS acquired Topshop, Topman and Miss Selfridge from the collapsed Philip Green's Arcadia Group. However, it started out exclusively selling imitations of clothing worn by superstars on television, in movies and in music videos, reports the Mirror. This inspired the company's name ASOS, which originally stood for AsSeenOnScreen, with the tagline: "Buy what you see on film and TV".
Commenting on the revelation online, one Twitter user said: "You're telling me that ASOS stands for As Seen On Screen?!?!?!" Another user added: "Apparently ASOS stands for As Seen On Screen?
