‘Shōgun’ and ‘The Bear’ break records for most wins at the 2024 Emmys

The 2024 Emmy Awards have come to an end with Shōgun and The Bear breaking the record for the most wins in their respective fields – find out more below.During the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, which took place earlier this morning (September 15 in the United States), The Bear shattered the record for most wins in the Comedy series category, while Shōgun dominated the Drama series category – see the full list of this year’s winners here.Shōgun went into the ceremony as the most-nominated series in a single year in Emmys history with a total of 25 nods, while The Bear was nominated for 23 awards in total.

Ahead of the Primetime Emmys, Shōgun had won 14 of its 25 nominations at the Creative Arts Emmys, while The Bear had won seven of its 23 nominations at the same event.During the Primetime Emmys ceremony, The Bear would go on to win a further four awards for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeremy Allen White), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Liza Colón-Zayas) and Best Directing for a Comedy Series.

With Colón-Zayas’ win, she also became the first-ever Latina to win in the category. With a total of 11 wins at the 2024 Emmys, The Bear is now the most-awarded comedy series in a single year at the awards, breaking its previous record of 10 wins.Shōgun, however, walked away as the night’s biggest winner, taking home a total of four awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Best Directing for a Drama Series.
