Selena Marie Gomez (born July 22, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and television producer. After appearing on the children's series Barney & Friends (2002–2004), she received wider recognition for her portrayal of Alex Russo on the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel television series Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired from 2007 until 2012.
Gomez also starred in the films Another Cinderella Story (2008), Princess Protection Program (2009), Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009), Ramona and Beezus (2010), and Monte Carlo (2011). Thereafter, she focused on more mature roles in Spring Breakers (2012), Getaway (2013), The Fundamentals of Caring (2016), and The Dead Don't Die (2019). She voices the character of Mavis in the Hotel Transylvania film franchise, and serves as an executive producer of the Netflix television drama series 13 Reasons Why (2017–present) and the Netflix documentary series Living Undocumented (2019).

ET's Will Marfuggi spoke with Gomez and her co-stars, ahead of the show's season 2 premiere, about what they've learned from each other and what to expect this coming season.«I think in general, my standards for humor and gentlemen, and just, professionals have been — the bar's been lifted pretty high working with these two, so, it's been really fun, but I'm now a little bit picky,» Gomez said of what working with Martin and Short has taught her.While season 2 sees the already nosey Charles (Martin) and Oliver (Short) trying to meddle in Mabel (Gomez)'s love life, the 29-year-old actress told ET, the legendary actor-comedians are far too protective of her to set her up with just anyone.«They're protective,» Gomez said. «We're very protective of her,» Short agreed. «You know, most of the people we know are dead,» Short joked. «We don't know anyone under 50, so it's not like, 'Uh, hey, I want you to meet Selena,'» Martin quipped.«If you get out of that walker, maybe you can meet Selena,» the actor quipped.
All jokes aside, Gomez said «she's fine» without their help in that department.«No, it's fine.
