Labor Day weekend this year won’t be sleepy. Searchlight is jumping into the mix on Aug. 29 with their Jay Roach-directed comedy The Roses starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Andy Samberg, Oscar winner Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow and Kate McKinnon.
In the screenplay from 2x Oscar nominee Tony McNamara, life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch): successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids.
But beneath the façade of their supposed ideal life, a storm is brewing – as Theo’s career nosedives while Ivy’s own ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites.
The Roses is inspired by the 1989 Danny DeVito-directed, Michael Leeson-scripted movie The War of the Roses starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, based on the novel by Warren Adler.
