BBC Radio 1 legend Scott Mills has admitted his fear in replacing Steve Wright for his mid-afternoon Radio 2 slot next week.

Catching up with OK! exclusively, the broadcaster and DJ, 49, believes he has "big shoes to fill - the biggest!" in taking over radio legend Steve, 67 - who has occupied the favourite weekday position for the last 20 years. "He's the master!" Scott said. "I used to listen to him on the radio after school when my mum would be driving me home.

He's such an incredible broadcaster. He's just your friend! "I've got the big shoes to fill," he added. "The biggest! If you'd told me when I was 10-years-old, listening to Steve's show in the car, that I'd be taking over his job, I absolutely would never have believed you. "In fact, if you'd told me when I was 20 or 30 years old that this job would be in my future, I would never have believed you because he's just one of the best in the biz!" It was announced last month that the 'Steve Wright in the Afternoon' frontman would be stepping down from his weekday afternoon show after 20 years in the position.

Following Steve's claims that his Radio 2 bosses sought to do "something different" with his slot, he described his replacement and long-term pal Scott as a "brilliant and versatile presenter' following the announcement of the shake-up. "I'm in awe of Steve," Scott - who is also set to leave his Saturday morning show on Radio 5 Live - admits. "I've dabbled on Radio 2 since 2018 now, but every time I go there, I'm just starstruck.
