Scots vet's snakebite warning after rise in dogs bitten by poisonous reptiles on nature walks

pet owners to be on alert after a rise in dogs being bitten by poisonous snakes. Kirkton Vet Centre in Stonehaven is urging caution after treating multiple dogs for Adder bites.

The species is also the only venomous wild snake in the UK and their bites can be 'extremely dangerous to dogs and humans'. The snake is usually secretive and will avoid confrontation but can react if a dog sniffs and distrubs them.Now Kirkton Vet Centre is reminding dog walkers who are taking advantage of good weather and reduced restrictions to watch out for the 'hard to spot' animal.Kirkton Vet Centre said: "have had two cases this week of dogs being bitten by adders."These venomous snakes are more active in the warmer weather and especially in moorland areas.
