A Scots dad has shared the heart-warming story of his miracle twins who defied the odds after being born three months before their due date.

Peter McKenna, 33, grew concerned when his six-month pregnant wife, Charlotte, also 33, began to feel pain in her stomach after suffering a bleed just months before.

While travelling back from a wedding on August 9, the Edinburgh couple rang the hospital where staff advised Charlotte to take paracetamol and monitored the situation but the pain was consistent so they rushed straight to the city's Royal Infirmary, reports Edinburgh Live.

The couple started to panic, as their twins were not due for another three months. However, on arrival at the hospital, Charlotte was told they would need an emergency C-section under general anaesthetic, as she was already dilated. The couple's twin boys were born the next day, with little Reuben weighing just one pound and eight ounces, and brother Simon weighing two pounds and three ounces. The family have praised medical staff at the neonatal ward for the care that helped the twins defy the odds to survive.
