Scots tourists to get paid to holiday in Malta this summer

holidaymakers will be given a cash handout for taking a trip to Malta this summer. The Maltese government has announced that tourists heading into Malta could receive as much as €200 (which converts to around £173) for booking at a hotel from a minimum of three days in the country.

It is hoped that the move will help to revive tourism on the island - which is said to account for more than a quarter of its economy.

Figures released by the country state that 2.7million foreign tourists visited Malta in 2019 - but that number dropped by 80% since the coronavirus pandemic emerged last year.

Under the scheme announced by Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo, Scots will be given €100 by Malta’s Tourism Authority for booking at a five-star hotel.
