Scots pensioner dies after car plunges into harbour on Christmas Eve

Arbroath harbour on Christmas Eve. The alarm was raised after the vehicle was seen entering the water at around 7.20pm on Thursday.

Police, fire crews and paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service raced to the scene but the 81-year-old man’s body was recovered a short time later.

A large crane was brought in to recover the stricken white vehicle from the marina.Police Scotland have now confirmed the death.

A force spokesperson said: “We received a report of a car entering the water at Arbroath Harbour around 7.20pm on Thursday, December 24.“The body of an 81-year-old man was recovered from the water a short time later.
