NHS heroes who put their lives on the line during the pandemic have been rewarded with a 60p fruit pot or a cup of cheap coffee.Bosses at NHS Lothian used “wellbeing” cash allocated to improve staff morale to offer a chopped fruit cup or a “hot drink” – but banned them from enjoying “barista”-style lattes or cappuccinos.
Karen Leonard, an organiser at the GMB trade union, hit out at the measly perks, saying: “A fruit pot or a cheap coffee isn’t going to ease the unsustainable pressures on our NHS as we head into winter. “After years of cuts and still in the grip of Covid-19, what we need is massive investment in our services to recruit and retain the people and skills we need to tackle the understaffing crisis.” One NHS staff member told
