Fears have been raised that Hugh Macpherson, 37, had access to sensitive information while the firm worked for the state. Sources close to the probe questioned whether he was able to hide indecent images on government systems.
Macpherson was caught when police found computer servers and other specialised equipment in his loft in Barrhead, near Glasgow.
Officers seized more than 30 devices and found eight indecent images on one hard drive. Some were deemed to be in the most extreme category.
