A Scots dad has died of a rare hidden heart condition just days before his 39th birthday.Stephen Stewart, also known as Bowie, died suddenly in July of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a genetic form of heart disease that can often display few, if any, symptoms and affects around just one in 500 in the UK.The dad-of-two, from Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire, leaves behind two young daughters and his heartbroken family have launched a fundraiser to pay for his headstone, so they can have somewhere to remember him.
As reported by Aberdeen Live, Stephen's mother Dariel Bowie posted a heartfelt appeal online following his passing. She said: “I never really ask for help but recently I lost my son on July 12, 2023 to HCM.
He was 38 and would have been 39 on July 31. He’s left behind two little girls aged 13 and 10 and a partner and it would be nice to get a nice headstone for the girls to visit.
I’d be so grateful to anyone that could help."It would be so appreciated. It’s taken me a lot of courage to ask people for help but I don’t know what else to do.”Tributes have poured in online following the announcement of Stephen's passing, with the young dad being described as "a character".One person said: "So sad.
