Scots may not realise that the last train today will be much earlier than usual.Rail services in Scotland are reduced to just five lines today as RMT walkouts go ahead.
While ScotRail employees are not involved in the strike, safety-critical signallers and maintenance crews who work for Network Rail Scotland will take part, rendering normal operation impossible.
Workers are striking over pay, job security and good working conditions, according to RMT general secretary Mick Lynch, and there are more rail strikes planned next month on August 18 and 20.
David Simpson, ScotRail service delivery director, told the PA news agency: “On the five routes where we are able to operate a very limited service on strike days, we’re advising customers to seek alternative means of transport and to only travel if they really need to.”Services will run between 7.30am and 6.30pm, however last trains will depart well before that on each line.
