Scotland weather warning issued as 75mph winds risk power cuts and travel chaos

The Met Office has warned that high winds will be sweeping across parts of Scotland this week under a new warning placed on 20 areas.Scotland has seen plenty of weather alerts coming into force in recent weeks, mostly to do with snow and ice and the dangers that the freezing conditions can bring.But now the forecaster has warned that winds reaching 75mph may have the potential to cause travel chaos, resulting in public transport delays and even possible power outages.The Met Office has described the upcoming conditions this week as "very strong winds" along with frequent spells of showers too.

Here's everything you need to know about the warning, including how long it's in place for and which areas are affected.The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for wind on Wednesday, March 22, lasting from 4am until 1pm in the afternoon.The forecaster said: "A band of squally showers will move east with a spell of very strong west to southwesterly winds following through Wednesday morning.

Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely widely and 65 mph in exposed locations, with a chance of gusts reaching 75 mph in parts of western Scotland, which may combine with the morning high tide to cause some spray and large waves along some western coasts."These spells of very strong winds may cause some disruption to travel, whether that's on the roads or via public transport.To keep safe during the poor weather, the Met Office has urged people to be aware of the following conditions that may occur:At the moment, the following areas have been placed under the weather alert.
