Celtic hero Chris Sutton has defended Anthony Ralston after the Hoops defender's howler against Switzerland and backed him to put in a performance if he is given the nod again tonight in the crunch clash with Hungary.Scotland drew 1-1 with the Swiss in Wednesday night's Group A match after Ralston's slack pass was pounced upon by Xherdan Shaqiri, who netted a stunning equaliser to cancel out Scott McTominay's strike.That result leaves Scotland requiring a win in Stuttgart tonight to make sure they finish as one of the best third-placed teams and there have been calls from some quarters for Ralston to be dropped.The Lanarkshire man has played little first team football at Celtic this season and, writing in his Daily Record column, Sutton says the crticism of the right-back has been harsh but says the 25-year-old would shirk responsibility if given another chance in a new-look backline after Kieran Tierney's tournament-ending injury in midweek.He said: "He [Ralston] has taken some stick after his part in the Swiss goal the other night but he was brutally unlucky.

It just happened to fall right in the path of Xherdan Shaqiri but the finish was out of this world. It was an error but the punishment was brutal."I’ve said before, I love Ralston’s attitude and spirit.

He only started eight games for Celtic last term but he refuses to hide. His team-mates didn’t make it easy for him the other night either."The pass from Grant Hanley put him under severe pressure and Jack Hendry has constantly put him on the back foot in this competition so far by playing balls either behind him or with not enough pace.
