Scot fashion designer who fitted Justin Bieber credits King Charles for success

Fashion designer Siobhan Mackenzie has gone from dressing Justin Bieber and actress Alexa Swinton to creating a unique gift for King Charles – the man she credits for her success.The 30-year-old, whose unique tartans have been worn by A-listers, said the thistle silk scarf was a thank you to the monarch, whose Prince’s Trust charity loaned her the cash to start her business.Siobhan, who had just graduated in fashion and design, said: “I started my business five days after I graduated when I was just 21 and hadn’t any money to my name.“The banks wouldn’t take me seriously as I had no experience or credibility, so I will be forever grateful to the Prince’s Trust who took a chance on me when no one else would.“In August the Global Energy Group were having the King visit them and they asked me to design him something special to mark the occasion.

I created a bespoke silk scarf in the Prince Charles Edward Stewart tartan with leaves and thistles on the border. I was told he was really pleased with it.“It felt like a real full circle moment as nine and a half years after I started out I was able to give the King something that was a product of his wonderful trust’s enterprise programme which has been running for 40 years and helped more than 90,000 young people become their own boss.

It’s just amazing.”Siobhan, who as a student did an internship with Scottish kiltmakers Glenisla, has had her unique designs worn by pop stars and actors as well as Scotland’s Commonwealth team, the First Minister’s wife Nadia El-Nakla and and Sex and the City spin off star Alexa Swinton.And she now hopes to see Taylor Swift, who will perform in Scotland next year, in one of her designs.She said: “Seeing Justin wearing my three-tartan combo on
