Secondary schools in England will roll out weekly testing from January as ministers battle to curb a surge in infection rates among teenagers.
Schools and colleges will be given batches of rapid coronavirus tests in the New Year, with weekly testing for all staff. Pupils and staff will be able to get daily tests for seven days if they are identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive.
Current rules say up to a whole school bubble must self-isolate if one student or staff member tests positive. But from January, those in the same bubble will be released from the need to self-isolate if they agree to be tested once a day.
