A nine-year-old boy has been hailed one of Scotland’s Little Champions for his incredible bravery and determination to help others.Dayn Montgomery, from Prestwick, scooped the national gong at the glittering Scotland’s Champions awards ceremony in the Double Tree by Hilton in Glasgow on Saturday.The awards, in partnership with the Daily Record, Sunday Mail and Utilita, recognise and celebrate the exceptional achievements of ordinary folk throughout Scotland.But young Dayn, who has complex heart defects, is certainly no ordinary nine-year-old and was nominated for his tireless efforts in donating Easter eggs, Christmas selection boxes, games, and toiletries for children in hospital.Dayn enlisted help from the beavers, cubs and scouts of the 14th Ayrshire Scout Group, Prestwick, where he is an avid cub scout.Those on the receiving end of Dayn’s kindness were the patients at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow - where Dayn regularly attends for check-ups and recently underwent open heart surgery there - Crosshouse Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and the Yorkhill Charity.And Dayn has even helped raise thousands of pounds for charity as in April he took part in the Hillbillies Motor Cycle Club’s Easter Egg Run just weeks after his heart surgery, helping to raise £3,807 for the charity.Last month Dayn was one of three youngsters treated to a VIP day out to Braehead ahead of the Little Champions awards, sponsored by XSite Braehead, with the shopping trip seeing fellow winners Quinn Young, 11, and Hanlon Stevenson, six, suited and booted before showered with gifts and treats.The young heroes were kitted out in the latest fashions courtesy of Next, Braehead, before heading to XSite where they enjoyed a game of ten pin
