Great Example (9/1) has a lot of things going for him in Saturday’s feature John Smith’s Cup at York (2.30pm) at a current juicy price.
After landing his novice and a small handicap at Nottingham a year ago, he was upped in grade in some bigger handicaps at Goodwood and Newbury, on each occasion only finding one rival too powerful and indicating that there’s a big one to be scooped with this lad.
The first of those two contests was won by Le Don De Vie, who franked the form with fourths in both the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Old Newton Cup at Haydock, while Newbury scorer Caradoc was fourth in a Listed race on his next outing.
