The satirical news site The Onion has won the bidding for the assets of Alex Jones‘ InfoWars, which he has been forced to sell off after a defamation judgment in favor of the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting massacre.

The acquisition came with the support of a number of the families who secured the $1.4 billion verdict. Everytown for Gun Safety will be working with The Onion via a multi-year advertising agreement. “The Onion’s goal with the acquisition is to end Infowars’ relentless barrage of disinformation for the sake of selling supplements and replace it with The Onion’s relentless barrage of humor for good,” the site said.

Jones’ InfoWars has been tied up in bankruptcy court as he faces the defamation judgment. CNN first reported on The Onion’s winning bid, which was not disclosed.

Jones had claimed that the 2012 shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School was a hoax. More to come. By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
