Santa Claus lands in Manchester as 20m Father Christmas wows shoppers

Manchester’s giant Santa Claus landed in St Peter’s Square this morning after construction teams battled the elements to welcome him in.

The 20-metre-tall Father Christmas forms the centrepiece of Manchester’s festive displays, and sits next to smaller sculptures featuring bees with Christmas hats on.

The installation on Monday (November 13) comes days after the annual Christmas Markets opened on Friday (November 10). The nine market sites were busier than ever, according to Pat Karney.

Coun Karney is the man in charge of the council’s celebrations, including the new Toy Parade on December 3.
