Sergei Skripal had hoped he would live out the rest of his days in peace in the quaint British cathedral city of Salisbury. He had moved to the UK in 2010 as part of a under the cover of darkness spy swap.
But since his arrival in Britain, he had lived a quiet life in a modest house. Then, in early 2018 his daughter, Yulia, who still lived in Russia flew to the UK to pay her father a visit.
On March 4, 2018, Sergei and Yulia were poisoned with the deadly Novichok nerve agent, one of the deadliest chemical weapons ever made.
The nerve gas attack, which was smeared on his front door, bore a chilling resemblence to the fatal poisoning of former Russian spuy, Alexander Litvinenko in 2006.
