Salford Quays residents have been left confused after signs for 'Trafford' appeared on their streets. The signs, some of which simply say 'Trafford', were installed recently in some parts of Salford.
But while residents have since found out they have been put up for the upcoming Women's Euros tournament, they still said more clarity was needed so people did not think the city was 'moving boroughs'.
Dale Langford, who spotted the signs, was shocked to see the welcoming banners for Trafford on his lunchtime walk. “I saw this Trafford banner on my lunchtime walk around the Quays and it just amused me to see it in such a prominent location,” he said. “I don't think there's any appetite to change our name to Trafford Quays or move boroughs.” Read more: Tributes paid following death of former Bolton Council leader and mayor Cliff Morris Although the bypassers admit that there are other signs with more detail on them around the Euros, they believe these do not instantly suggest that they are related.
But Salford City Council said that with Old Trafford being a host venue for the Euros, they dressed the signs as such for ‘branding opportunities’.
