Salford council has just spent £7.7 million to buy a rugby stadium. The plan was revealed on a windy February afternoon earlier this year by the city's mayor Paul Dennett, who arrived at Salford Community Stadium to announce the move dressed in a Salford Red Devils top.
Months of negotiations followed but the council finally signed a deal to buy out Peel’s 50 percent stake in the ground this December, taking full control of the facility and surrounding land.
Salford's mayor said bringing the stadium under council control will kickstart its plans for sport and regeneration in the city.
With that in mind, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at what could happen in the next few years now an agreement has been reached.
