Irozuru – who is Manchester-born and raised and trains under Aston Moore at Sale Harriers Manchester – missed out on a place at London 2012 despite achieving the qualifying distance, when she came fourth at Olympic Trials, before rupturing her Achilles ahead of Rio 2016.

That meant the first taste of Olympic action at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium on Sunday morning was all the sweeter for the 31-year-old.
