Halsey channels a dominatrix in the racy music video for their new single “safeword.” The 30-year-old hitmaker rolled out the song and its accompanying music video on Thursday (February 27), signaling the start of a new era after last year’s album The Great Impersonator. “Pin me to the floor, swing me by the neck / Locked behind a door, is it time yet,” Halsey sings over a plucky production courtesy of Austin Corona and Wyatt Bernard.
Tensions rise as they move into the chorus, singing, “I’m tough, I’m mean, I’m rough / Just say the safe word when you’ve had enough.” The accompanying visual, directed by Lana Jay Lackey, brings the lyrics to life.
