The boyfriend of Sabita Thanwani, who was found dead in March 2022, has admitted killing the student. Maher Maaroufe, 23, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Ms Thanwani at her university accommodation in London.
However, Maaroufe denied her death was murder. His plea has been accepted by the court and he will not stand trial for murder.
His plea was entered on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Ms Thanwani, 19, was found with a serious neck injury after a neighbour heard screams coming from her room on March 19 last year.
When officers arrived they found her lying under blankets and a duvet on the floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 6am.
