One of the jurors in the trial of Ryan Giggs has been discharged after phoning in sick for a second day. Former Manchester United ace Giggs, 48, is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour towards his ex partner Kate Greville and of headbutting her during a row in November last year.

Giggs is also said to have elbowed Ms Greville’s younger sister Emma during the argument at the couple’s home in Worsley, Greater Manchester.

Giggs denies all charges. Jurors at Manchester Crown Court were sent out to deliberate on Wednesday afternoon after hearing evidence for two-and-a-half weeks.

But, on Thursday morning, one of the 12 jurors called in sick and the remaining 11 had to be sent home. The judge refused an application by Giggs’ legal team yesterday to discharge the sick juror and continue with 11.This morning (Friday), the sick juror was still unable to come to court and a decision has now been made to discharge them and continue with 11 jurors.
