Allan Woodhouse hit an 86th minute winner to send Rutherglen Glencairn back to the top of the West of Scotland First Division on Saturday.

Their late show, coupled with a shock 6-0 loss for former leaders Shotts at fellow title challengers Drumchapel United, put Joe Pryce’s men a point clear of United after 11 games, as Shotts dropped to fourth behind Blantyre Vics.

Pryce was pleased to see his side return there after a good result, but admitted he was shocked by the scoreline between their title rivals.

Pryce said: “It was no surprise that Drumchapel won, but it was a surprise seeing the score-line. You don’t get many scores like that in our division. “We were able to take advantage of that by getting the three points that take us back on top of the league, so we’re delighted with that, considering it was our only league match in October. “We felt we could have played a wee bit better, I’m sure Thorniewood do, too, because it wasn’t much of a game, but the players managed to dig in and find a way to win. “I thought Thorniewood started better than us, they were the better team for the first 20 minutes, then we managed to get ourselves back into it. “We came on strong towards the end, had a few chances, and the deflected winner gives us the points. “It is an incredibly tight division; one win can put you top, one defeat can drop you down two or three places – even a draw can do that. “We’re moving in to November where we have at least three cup games, so we could drop down in the division through no fault of our own, just from not playing [league] games.
