Rutherglen Glencairn thumped Thorniewood United 5-1 in the West of Scotland League First Division on Saturday, and boss Willie Harvey says it could have been more.Glens hit the woodwork three times and forced several top saves from United keeper Craig Smith. As it was, Glencairn scored their goals at crucial times as Jack McIlveen gave them a second-minute lead, with Ryan McManus adding a second just after goalkeeper Matt McGinley prevented ’Wood from levelling. The Viewpark club pulled a goal back in 62 minutes, but Martin McBride restored Glens’ lead six minutes later, before Alastair Small was sent off for the visitors for a second booking.McIlveen added his second and Glencairn’s fourth from the spot three minutes later, and Roan Fitzwater sealed the emphatic win with four minutes left.Harvey, whose side climbed up one place to 13th in the table, said: “A win like that has been coming.“It really could have been so much more – we hit the woodwork three times, their goalkeeper had easily four or five really good saves.“But the strange thing is that we went in at 2-0 up and it could easily have been 1-1 – our goalkeeper Matty had a really good save on a one-on-one.“The problem was that we created so many chances and the concern is that if you haven’t taken them, it can come back to bite you in the bum.“But fortunately after Matty made the save we went up the park and, right on half-time, made it 2-0, which totally changes the outlook on things.“I don’t want to take anything away from Thorniewood, because they worked really hard and caused us a wee bit of trouble every now and again, but I just felt we were superior on the day.“We look to be fully back to strength and we show we’re a good team when we’ve got selection
