Russell Brand: Met Police receive report of alleged sexual assault in Soho in 2003

The Metropolitan Police have received a report of an alleged sexual assault following news reports about comedian Russell Brand, the force said.Officers received a report of an alleged sexual assault in Soho in central London in 2003 after allegations were made in a Sunday Times and Dispatches investigation.A Met Police spokesman said: “We are aware of reporting by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches about allegations of sexual offences.“On Sunday, September 17, the Met received a report of a sexual assault which was alleged to have taken place in Soho in central London in 2003.

Officers are in contact with the woman and will be providing her with support.“We first spoke with The Sunday Times on Saturday, September 16 and have since made further approaches to The Sunday Times and Channel 4 to ensure that anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual offence is aware of how to report this to the police.“We continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a sexual offence, no matter how long ago it was, to contact us.”It comes after the comedian and actor was accused of incidents at the height of his fame in an investigation by the Sunday Times and Channel 4's Dispatches.

Four women came forward with claims, with the incidents said to have taken place between 2006 and 2013. During this time Brand was a presenter on BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4 and starred in several Hollywood films.On Friday night the comedian shared a video statement denying 'criminal' and 'very serious' allegations, which he said had been put to him in the form of a letter and email from an unnamed television programme and newspaper.The comedian released a video addressing the criminal allegations last night.
