RTÉ sports presenter Evanne Ní Chuilinn has recounted her amusing earliest memory of the late legendary broadcaster Gay Byrne.
The nation mourned Gay’s passing in November and in the RTÉ Guide this week, Evanne explained how the presenter initially baffled her.
She cast her mind back to her father’s involvement in a pirate radio station in the 1980s explaining her memories of sitting in the studio with him as she chatted about how broadcasting was woven into the fabric of her life.
Memories that precede her dad’s pirate radio shows though, were those of Gaybo on the wireless. Such was Evanne’s innocence that she was baffled by the logistics of Gay Byrne physically getting inside her family’s radio.
